One of the best albums ever made even better April 23, 2009 SushiWorship (Boise, ID United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a music fanatic. I enjoy music of all genres. I have a huge cd library. Out of all the music I listen to, this is an album I never tire of, and one I can honestly say is one of my favorite albums BY ANYONE, EVER. It was my introduction to the great talent of Mike Patton, whose many other works and collaborations are amazing as well, but back to Angel Dust. Angel Dust takes you on a dark, atmospheric journey, and one you will want to experience again and again. Each song is an amalgam of sounds and styles, making it indescribable. It is unlike anything Faith No More (or anyone else for that matter) have done before, or since. I realize I have not really said anything that would really tell someone what this album sounds like, but that's what this album does to you. It leaves you at a loss for words over how great it is. You really must hear it for yourself to understand. I could name a bunch of styles of music that it includes, but none would truly descibe or do it justice. If you like Faith No More, Mike Patton, many genres of music, interesting and unique music, or just music in general, buy this album! As for the remastering on this particular version, I think it is great. It is actually a bit quieter than the original, but this is because it is more dynamic and less compressed (if you don't know about compression, it is a technique used that makes the music louder, but also sacrifices more of the dynamic range--contrast between loud and soft parts of the music--the more compressed it is). This allows the listener to hear the album with greater clarity and detail than ever before and to notice elements that may have been missed. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab makes remasters the way remasters should be made, rather than the common trend of putting out remasters that are simply louder than their older counterparts, but actually less dynamic. It is also on a 24 karat gold compact disc. While it is debatable whether or not that feature accounts for any improvement in sound quality, it does ensure a longer lasting disc that is resistant to oxidation. This version is also of a very limited pressing,as are all MOFI releases and will become a valuable collectible, worth more than the price you paid for it. If you already own and love Angel Dust, I would definitely recommend purchasing this remaster. If you have never heard it, you may want to purchase the regular version, as it is available for only $6.99. However, you will most likely love the album so much that you will want to get this version as well. It's that good.
Finally yes more of it. February 4, 2008 A. Acosta (Honolulu,Hawaii USA) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Im been trying all this time, what great audio cd to find.I might be old but never to old for rock-n- roll.FAITH YES MORE,to stay.
"SING and Rejoice!" January 13, 2009 Engelsstaub (WI) The title of this review is taken as excerpt from the lyrics of the opening song "Land of Sunshine." I find it appropriate in that one of the best albums of the early nineties is back (in limited edition gold-disc remaster.)
After the commercial success of Faith No More's "The Real Thing" they followed it with a very Mike Patton influenced and eclectic album that is "Angel Dust." Though there were songs very worthy of air-play on this album, it seems the band decided to make a "less radio-friendly" album. The results were amazing. Gone was the nasal tone of Patton's "Epic-" chorus vocals replaced by a more sinister and variable styling.
While "The Real Thing" was indeed a very influential and original work, this one showed a side of FNM that can not even be duplicated by the bands of today that wish to feebly emulate it. (Marilyn Manson shamelessly aped the chorus of "Be Aggressive" in his song "Mob Scene." Korn, Disturbed, etc. all try AND fail.)
Be all of that as it may, this particular release will likely only appeal to the collector and self-proclaimed audiophile. If you wish to rip this to a portable player (ie; iPod or Zune,) you'd be better served to just buy the original release. They took the volume down on most of the mix for this limited (10,000 numbered copies) re-release. This will not bode well for those seeking an MP3 listening experience. However if you have high-end audio equipment, you may hear a difference as a result.
The 24-Karat gold disc is a nice touch. I doubt it makes a real difference in playback readability but it looks pretty cool. As a note to vinyl fanatics, this album is also re-released as a record.
why a 1993 version? November 27, 2008 endsng (sunny south florida) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
great album. the advertisement described the new mobile fidelity gold disc remastering, but i received a 1993 re-issue (the ad did say import, so that part was accurate). anyway, i called to complain, and i received another identical copy. i sent one back, and kept the other. the re-issue has 'easy', which isn't on the other versions, so i decided to keep it.
Not as advertised April 28, 2009 Michael R. Karpovich (MI) First off this is a great cd, which I'm very happy to finally have in my musical library. The problem I have with this purchase is that it was advertised as being remastered and its not. Its just the import from 1993 and the only difference is it includes Faith No More's great cover of Easy(Like Sunday Morning). Also the CD I got skips and that was on my 1st listen!!!! I would have sent it back but I figured it would be more hassle than it was worth. So to summarize: Great CD, poor description of content!
